Dashain - The festival of togetherness
Warm greetings from Amazing Namaste!
In October, we had the pleasure of celebrating the biggest Nepalese festival, "Dashain". In this post we would like to share some pictures of our celebration and give you an understanding of the meaning of this special festival.
What is Dashain?
Dashain, the most famous festival in Nepal, is a significant 15-day event that commemorates the victory of good over evil. It is a time for family gatherings, celebrations and religious rituals.
A central feature of Dashain is the large family gathering. The elders pronounce their blessings while the younger ones pay their respects. This festival emphasizes the importance of family ties and maintaining close relationships.
Tika - A special custom
The tenth day of Dashain, known as "Tika", is the climax of the celebrations. On this day, family members gather to receive tika and jamara (a mixture of corn and barley sprouts) from their elders. The elders apply tika to the foreheads of their younger relatives and bless them with wishes for happiness and prosperity.
Spiritual reflection and gratitude
During Dashain, many people visit temples and perform various rituals to ask for blessings, express gratitude and reflect on their spiritual journey. This time of self-reflection and renewal of faith is of great importance to many.
A feast for the senses
Dashain is more than just a religious festival. It is an opportunity for families to come together, strengthen their bonds and enjoy traditional Nepalese cuisine. The festival is characterized by cultural activities such as dancing, singing and kite flying.
